This visual novel is conceived from existing technologies to imagine the appearance of a future world.
In this future, the rapid development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, remote humanoid robots, and XR allows many industries to transform their work into remote operations, particularly through the control of remote humanoid robots. This story takes us into this future world from the perspective of Karns, a remote doctor who operates a remote medical humanoid robot.
Overview
In this hypothetical future world, the development and integration of artificial intelligence and robotics technology have brought profound changes to society. Firstly, remote work has significantly expanded across multiple industries. Information technology, education, financial services, and creative industries such as programming, teaching, stock trading, and graphic design have widely adopted remote work models. These industries rely mainly on digital tools and communication technology, making remote work not only feasible but also more efficient. However, remote education and work via actual screens, like computers and smartphones, also face user operation issues and collaboration limitations, which could be improved with the development and assistance of XR technology.
Meanwhile, industries such as healthcare, construction, firefighting and rescue, and manufacturing, which require high physical interaction and precise operations, are gradually transitioning to include remote elements. For example, remote medical care is increasingly accepted through advanced diagnostic tools and remotely operated robots, while virtual reality and augmented reality technologies are being used for planning and simulation in construction and manufacturing.
The transportation system has also undergone a transformation. With the advancement and popularity of autonomous driving technology, reliance on private vehicles has decreased, shifting towards more efficient public and shared transportation services. This has not only reduced traffic congestion but also had a positive impact on the environment.
On the other hand, in this envisioned future world, technology has developed and integrated further, especially artificial intelligence, robotics, and XR technologies, such as XR remote humanoid robots. People are expected to transform all work into remote work, reducing the constraints of distance on work, increasing the flexibility of life, and enhancing social interaction. Moreover, such changes will also impact the transportation system, accelerating the rapid adoption of autonomous driving. Consequently, humanity may have the opportunity to reconnect with the pristine beauty of the natural world.

Story Narrative
One night 40 years later
In a lively restaurant, the soft orange-yellow light gently illuminated the entire place, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The decoration combined modern and traditional elements, with various artworks hanging on the walls and exquisite tableware and candles placed on the tables. This was a gathering specifically for medical professionals.
"Hey, look who's here."
"The celebrity has arrived."
"We thought you weren't going to make it," they teased him about being late.
The orange-yellow light shone on two people at the entrance, immediately attracting everyone's attention. One of them, Karns, was a renowned remote robotic surgeon known for performing numerous significant surgeries with a remote robot and was the most frequently featured doctor in hospital posters and promotional videos. The gathering's focus shifted to them, and amidst the playful banter, Karns said:"Don't even start. I was about to leave when a drunkard barged in, making a scene and punched me."
"Did you dodge it?" The person inspecting him didn't find any scars.
"No, I hadn't had the chance to change yet," Karns replied.
"Ouch, that must have hurt," the person grimaced, thinking of Karns still in his robotic body.
"Exactly, it was an open fracture, made me cry," another colleague who arrived with Karns jokes.
Everyone couldn't help but imagine that scene: In the emergency room, medical staff often face various emergencies and critically ill patients. They need to make quick judgments and deal with rapidly changing situations, sometimes even risking their lives to rescue injured people. In this busy and challenging environment, medical staff need to remain calm and professional to ensure that every patient receives timely and effective treatment. And, a drunkard yelling and looking for trouble, mistaking the remote robot for a regular person, resulting in his bones piercing through his skin after throwing a punch. Then, seeing his bones, he started crying from the pain.
"Must say, these remote robots are something for dealing with medical disturbances," one commented, and others nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, remember Laila? She kept crying and fussing last time until Roland turned his head into a TV and played cartoons for her," another colleague brought up Laila, a special little girl with leukemia. Laila was a lively and adorable girl but sometimes difficult during check-ups.
That scene: The hospital ward has pink flowers and cards with words of encouragement everywhere. But the girl stood there unhappy. Her arms were covered with pinholes and her pale skin no longer hinted that she was a resident of the hospital. It wasn’t until I saw my favorite cartoon that I felt briefly happy.
"Oh, I remember, after that, the first thing Laila would say to all the robot medics was..."
"I want to watch Puppy Hero Adventures!" everyone shouted together, bursting into laughter.
"Laila is cute, alright, but thank goodness my head doesn't have a screen, or I'd be the one being pestered."
"I wouldn't mind being pestered by Laila, too bad my application to become a remote robot operator never went through."
Just then, Merida approached from afar, "Hey, what are you guys talking about?" she inquired."
Merida, you use a remote robot too, right?" someone in the group asked.
"Speaking of which, it makes me angry. Last week, a lecherous old man came to the ER and then got admitted. He always looked at us nurses with lewd eyes and even groped me!" Merida angrily took another sip of her drink.
"What kind of fetish is that!?" They looked at Merida in astonishment, knowing that although remote robots are humanoid and have skin texture, they lack actual facial features and instead have screens.
"He said, 'What's wrong with groping a robot if real people won't let me touch them?' It disgusted me so much I just turned off the tactile feedback," Merida shuddered at the thought.
"That's despicable! Did you report it?" another nurse asked, agitated.
"I did. When I turned off the tactile feedback, I also activated the recording. Captured everything 360 degrees; he couldn't deny it if he tried."
Merida's face showed a triumphant smile as she ended her story with humor and confidence. As the story concluded, the gathering's atmosphere became even more relaxed and joyful, with everyone enjoying the get-together.
