Story - Perla's older sister, Pafey

The warm sunshine bathed the earth as the crisp air gently flowed around. A girl, herhands embracing a large gift box, walked and skipped along the road. A joyful smileadorned her face, impossible to conceal, spreading happiness wherever she went. Those who crossed her path couldn't help but smile back. Under the pedestrian light, the sunlight illuminated the girl, creating a scene reminiscent of life's beauty. In thatmoment, all the burdens and noise of the world seemed to vanish, leaving a sense ofpeace and tranquility.

[Screech! Crash!] The piercing sound resonated, leaving long tire marks on theasphalt. The noise of objects colliding, along with shouts and screams, filled the air.Amidst the weightlessness, the girl could only hear the cries.

[Thud] Accompanied by the sound of objects hitting the ground, the girl fell from thesky and tumbled several times. During the process, the semi-conscious girl onlyremembered holding the box tightly to her chest. The box was secured to her heart,as if it contained something that absorbed the impact, protecting the girl. Despite thebox being battered, the girl appeared unharmed. Spectators, observing the entireincident, gasped in unison, their breaths catching. They gradually gathered aroundone after another.

"Make way! Make way!" Medical personnel and police officers, alerted by thenotification, hurriedly cleared the crowd, maintaining order and providing assistance.Paramedics pushed through the onlookers and reached the girl, inspecting herinjuries and attempting to communicate with her, hoping she would release the boxto confirm the hidden areas. However, the girl was only aware of the presence ofmany people around her, hearing their voices but unable to discern what they weresaying clearly.

Although the girl appeared to have minor external injuries, the paramedics, guidedby their extensive experience and expertise, dared not be complacent. Worried thattugging the girl forcefully might cause harm, they allowed her to hold onto the box asshe was lifted onto a stretcher and placed inside the ambulance. Along with theblaring siren, the girl's consciousness grew fainter, and her hands grew weaker.Eventually, she let go of the box, which fell from her arms, revealing a soft plush toyinside. The part of her chest that had been shielded showed no significant injuriesaside from minor wrinkles in her clothing. Her heart continued to beat, yet theparamedics' hearts remained far from calm. Their brows furrowed, their expressionsgrave and uneasy, they desperately called out to the girl, trying to bring her back toconsciousness, striving to halt the ebbing of her life.

Finally, the ambulance arrived at the hospital.

Upon receiving the notification, the parents rushed to the hospital with Perla. Theylearned that Perla's older sister, Pafey had been in an accident while buying Perla abirthday present. Now, all they could do was wait anxiously outside the operatingroom. Perla, not fully comprehending what had happened, sat obediently in a chair. When the light from the operating room disappeared, her parents rushed forward.Perla watched as her father caught her mother, who was about to collapse, andnodded at the doctor. Feeling increasingly uneasy, Perla stood up from the chair andwalked towards the operating room. Her heart told her that something very importantwas inside.

As Perla was about to pass her parents and the doctor, a hand stopped her. Lookingup, Perla found herself enveloped in her father's slightly trembling embrace. She sawthe moisture in her father's eyes and her mother, tearful, nodding at the doctor. Perlafelt lost, wanting to wipe away her father's tears, but the tight hug prevented her fromdoing so.

As time passed, Pafey was moved to a hospital room. Later, Perla heard her fathersay, "Perla, shall we go see Pafey?" With Perla's nod, the doctor led her parents, carrying Perla, into the room. On the bed lay Pafey, a familiar face, as if she werejust sleeping.

"Pafey, wake up," Perla struggled, attempting to get out of her father's embrace.Seeing Perla's fear of getting hurt, her father gently released her and held her handinstead. Perla, holding her father's hand, called out again, "Pafey, don't sleep. Wakeup."

The person on the bed did not respond to Perla's cries as she used to. Perla staredat her, torn between wanting to approach and being too afraid. She kept shouting hersister's name until a large hand covered her eyes. The slightly cold palm blockedPerla's view, making her understand something she didn't want to. Perla fell silent.

"She's still here," her mother's determined voice and her father's gentle tone, understanding Perla's thoughts, resonated simultaneously. The light reappearedbefore Perla's eyes. Her father removed his hand covering her eyes, and her motherwalked over, taking Perla's hand and leading her to the machine. Pointing at theheartbeat monitor, she said,"She's still here. Her heart is still beating. She's continuing to live, and she'll get upsoon. Pafey wants to play with Perla too, right?
